Grey record cabinets

A grey record cabinet adds a mineral touch to the listening corner, somewhere between the neutrality of white and the presence of black. Depending on the design, it comes in concrete grey, with a raw look, grey sonoma, which keeps a wood grain, or rustic grey.

Grey goes with metal, polished concrete, light wood and contemporary interiors.

Grey: a neutral, textured colour

Less stark than black and less bright than white, grey keeps the sleeves and equipment in the foreground while giving the furniture some depth.

Concrete grey

Concrete grey imitates the look of a mineral surface. It goes well with black metal, polished concrete or tiled floors, and loft-style rooms. Belleville, an 85 cm hi-fi cabinet on metal legs, comes in this finish, with one closed compartment and 2 open compartments.

Grey sonoma

Grey sonoma keeps the grain of a wood-effect finish, in a softer greyish tone. It goes with linen, light wood and pastel shades. Canal comes in grey sonoma as well as concrete grey.

Rustic grey and plain grey

Some designs offer a stronger grey or a plain grey: Rivoli comes in rustic grey, Ménilmontant in grey, for a more contemporary take on a sideboard with splayed legs.

Pairing grey

  • With light wood to warm it up.
  • With black for a more graphic look.
  • With colourful sleeves, which stand out against this neutral background.

Grey in the room

Concrete grey works with white or charcoal walls, metal lighting and raw textiles. The softer grey sonoma goes with light wood and linen. Both stay neutral: they ride out changes in decor and leave room for the sleeves.

Care

A soft, slightly damp cloth is all you need, without abrasive products. Grey finishes show dust less than black and marks less than high-gloss white: a practical choice for a living space.

The practical points

Whatever the finish, check that the top takes your turntable, often around 45 × 35 cm, that the amp has an open, ventilated compartment, and that the compartments are at least 32 cm high and deep for LPs. Allow roughly 1 cm of width for 3 to 4 records, depending on their weight.
