Record cabinets
A record cabinet brings the turntable, the amplifier and the records you actually play together in one place. At Sillon Studio, every design is named after a Paris neighbourhood and comes in several finishes: light or smoked oak, rustic wood, white, black, concrete grey.
Low consoles, hi-fi sideboards, tall units or compact formats: start with the space you have, then think about how you like to listen.
Choosing the right record cabinet
Before looking at finishes, take three measurements: the width of wall available, the dimensions of your turntable and the number of records you need to store today, leaving room for the ones still to come.
The top: room for the turntable
A typical consumer turntable takes up an area of around 45 × 35 cm. Check that the depth of the top takes it fully, feet included, and leave a few centimetres at the sides to handle the tonearm and the lid. If your turntable has a lid, keep clear height above it so it can open. Our turntable size guide covers the common formats.
The compartments: room for the records
A 12-inch LP sleeve measures around 31.5 × 31.5 cm, so a compartment needs a little more in height and depth for records to stand upright without sticking out. Allow roughly 1 cm of width for 3 to 4 records, depending on their weight and the thickness of the sleeves. A 30 cm wide compartment therefore holds several dozen records.
Listening height
A low unit, around 45 to 48 cm, goes with a sofa and a living room where you sit down to listen. A taller unit puts the turntable at hand height: handy for flipping the record without bending down. The 45 cm high Pigalle illustrates the first approach; the 89 cm Montmartre, the second.
The amplifier and ventilation
If you use a separate amp, plan for an open compartment beside or below the turntable, with space above and behind for the heat to escape. An enclosed amp runs hotter: follow its manufacturer’s recommendations. Designs with dedicated compartments are grouped in the hi-fi furniture range.
The finish
The engineered wood of our furniture takes a wide range of finishes. Oak and rustic wood tones warm up a room; white and concrete grey blend into a light space; black makes the sleeves stand out. Browse our wooden record cabinets or, for a smaller listening corner, our small record cabinets.
Assembly
Our furniture is delivered flat-packed, with instructions. Assemble it close to where it will stand and level it before setting up the turntable: a level top helps the tonearm track properly.
