TV and hi-fi units
A TV and hi-fi unit holds the TV, the turntable, the amp and part of your record collection on a single long piece. Our designs of 100 cm and more give enough width to keep things separate: picture on one side, sound and records on the other.
Side doors, central compartments or fabric storage boxes: every product page details the layout and dimensions.
One piece for the screen and the music
Putting the TV and the hi-fi on the same unit saves you from filling the living room with furniture. But the width and layout have to allow it.
Measure the usable width
Write down the width of your TV’s stand, the width of the turntable, around 45 cm, and possibly that of a speaker. If it all doesn’t fit on the top with a little margin, you need a longer unit or a turntable placed elsewhere. Bastille offers 121 cm, Bercy 123 cm.
Keep picture and sound apart
The TV in the centre, the turntable on one side, the amp in an open compartment: that’s the simplest layout. On Bastille, the central compartments take the equipment and the two side doors house the records. On Bercy, the turntable sits in the centre, between two fabric storage boxes.
Height and comfort
A low TV unit, around 48 cm, puts the screen at a comfortable height from the sofa. For the turntable, it’s also a pleasant height for seated listening, as long as you don’t mind leaning forward a little to flip the record.
Ventilation and cables
Router, console, amp: components pile up under a TV. Keep them in open compartments, with air above and behind, and gather the cables behind the unit. Don’t put the turntable directly above a component that gets hot.
Vibration
A soundbar or speakers on the same top as the turntable can pass vibrations to the tonearm. Keep them as far away as possible or put them on separate stands.
The weight of the TV
A TV on its stand concentrates its weight on a small area. When the unit’s maximum load is given, check it covers the TV, the turntable and the components in the compartments, and place the TV in the centre, above the most rigid part of the structure.
Record capacity
A 12-inch LP sleeve is around 31.5 cm square; allow roughly 1 cm of width for 3 to 4 records, depending on their weight. Vaugirard, 100 cm, holds up to around 220 LPs in its 4 compartments.
