Vintage record cabinets

A vintage record cabinet takes its cue from the sideboards and consoles of the 1950s to the 1970s: splayed or tapered legs, simple fronts, warm wood. It houses the turntable and records with a retro feel, without giving up compartments designed for LPs.

Rustic wood, oak or coffee finishes, mid-century silhouettes: choose the piece that suits your interior.

Creating a vintage-style listening corner

Vintage style isn’t just about looks. A piece inspired by post-war furniture still has to work for a modern turntable: a stable top, suitable compartments, room for the amp.

The hallmarks of mid-century style

  • Splayed or tapered legs, slightly angled, which lighten the piece.
  • Clean fronts, with few or no visible handles.
  • Warm-toned woods, from oak to rustic wood.

Ménilmontant brings these elements together: a 91 cm sideboard on splayed legs, with a space for the turntable, 4 record compartments and 2 drawers, for around 100 LPs. Voltaire has tapered legs and 4 vertical compartments across 52 cm.

Choosing the finish

The Rustic wood finish brings a pronounced patina that works with light walls, leather or rattan. Lighter oaks give a Scandinavian look. A coffee or walnut finish, where the design offers it, recalls period hi-fi furniture. To see all the wood tones, browse our wooden record cabinets.

Don’t forget listening comfort

A vintage sideboard is often taller than a low console: the turntable ends up at hand height. Check that the top takes a turntable of around 45 × 35 cm and that there’s room to open the lid. If you use an amp, plan for an open, ventilated compartment.

Modern turntable, retro cabinet

A recent turntable with a built-in preamp or Bluetooth sits naturally on a period-inspired piece. Run the cables out of the back and keep the top clear to enjoy the line of the furniture.

Splayed legs: check stability

Angled legs give the piece its line but need a level floor. After assembly, check that the cabinet doesn’t rock and that the top is level: it’s essential for the tonearm. On an old wooden floor, a spirit level placed on the top avoids surprises.

Completing the look

A now playing stand for the current sleeve, a few records displayed on the wall and a warm-light lamp are all you need. Find these pieces in our vinyl accessories, or go back to all our hi-fi furniture.
