Wooden record cabinets
A wooden record cabinet brings warmth to the listening corner and sets off the colours of the sleeves. Depending on the design, ours come in artisan oak, Sonoma oak, smoked oak, rustic wood or walnut, to suit a light interior as well as a darker room.
The exact material of each piece, most often engineered wood, is given in its specifications.
Choosing the right wood tone
Wood is the most popular finish for a record cabinet: it recalls the hi-fi furniture of the past and ages well in a living room. But you need to choose the tone to suit the room.
Light oaks
Sonoma oak and artisan oak give a bright look, close to Scandinavian style. They go with white walls, linen and plants. Pigalle comes in both finishes, like many of our designs.
Dark woods
Smoked oak, brown oak or walnut create a cosier mood, perfect for evening listening. They set off colourful sleeves and brushed aluminium equipment. Rivoli comes in walnut, among others, on hairpin legs.
Rustic wood
With more character, rustic wood adds a raw or retro feel. It works with black metal, leather and brick. Find designs with a period feel in our vintage record cabinets.
Engineered wood: what you need to know
Most of our furniture is made of engineered wood, meaning chipboard or MDF panels with a wood-effect finish. This material stays stable over time and lends itself to many colours. Some designs combine these panels with metal or wooden legs: the materials are detailed on each product page. Clean the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth, without abrasive products.
Matching wood to the rest of the room
- Avoid mixing wood tones that are similar but not the same: choose one dominant tone or a clear contrast.
- A light wooden floor sits well with a dark cabinet, and vice versa.
- Wood goes with black metal legs for a more industrial look.
The practical criteria stay the same
Whatever the finish, check that the top takes your turntable, often around 45 × 35 cm, that the compartments are at least 32 cm high and deep for LPs, and that an open compartment can house the amp. Daumesnil, 60 cm, combines a wooden frame with vertical compartments. For a more neutral approach, see also our white record cabinets.
